Facelift Plastic Surgery

cosmetic surgery, or rhytidectomy, helps reduce the appearance of facial wrinkles, lines, and other apparent signs of facial aging. Patients who want to take several years off the face and restore a more youthful appearance may choose face.

The facelift procedure is designed to help patients counter the adverse effects of time, stress, and environmental factors. Board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Marco Gonzalez provides facelift surgery to patients in El Paso, TX, and surrounding locations.

Establishing Candidacy

At the outset, the surgeon will assess the patient’s health history, skin time, and cosmetic goals to determine whether facelift surgery is a suitable procedure for them. It is important for the patient to be upfront with their plastic surgeon, particularly about their health history.

Certain medical conditions, such as autoimmune disorders or heart disease, may raise surgical risks. Not all underlying health conditions will exclude a patient as a candidate for facelift surgery. However, it is vital for the surgeon to be cognizant of these issues to be able to take the required precautions.

At the time of the pre-op consultation, the surgeon may raise the topic of smoking. The patient should honestly reveal their tobacco use as this can increase the risks associated with cosmetic surgery and cause slow healing.

Again, this lifestyle habit will not prevent an individual from being a facelift plastic surgery candidate. However, they will need to stop smoking for at least two weeks before and after the surgery.

Patient Education

The patient can make a well-considered decision after understanding in-depth about the procedure. They will also feel more confident throughout the process. During the initial consultation, the patient should freely ask any questions that they may have about facelift plastic surgery or the surgeon’s practice.

A responsible surgeon will offer the patient accurate answers and ensure that they are fully clear on all facets of the facelift surgery. If the surgeon recommends procedures such as an eye lift, neck lift, or brow lift, or specific non-surgical treatments along with the facelift, they will offer the patient adequate reasoning for their recommendations and enable them to make a judicious decision.

Evaluating Health and Facial Anatomy

A facelift is an invasive procedure. Therefore, the patient should be in good overall health to be resilient enough to receive anesthesia and surgery. The surgeon will evaluate the patient’s health records and ask questions on the existence of any underlying medical conditions.

The patient should unhesitatingly disclose this information to the face surgeon. Any untreated skin infections that the surgeon detects on the neck or facial region will need treatment prior to the procedure.

Because of this, the surgeon will assess the patient’s measurements, age, facial fat deposits, weight, degree of skin laxity, skin type, and facial and jaw anatomy. This assessment will allow the surgeon to determine a suitable surgical technique or a combination of facial procedures for a specific patient.

Procedure Planning

The surgeon will determine the following to develop a personalized facelift surgery plan:

  • Type of facelift
  • Type of anesthesia
  • Incision sites
  • How the surgeon will close the incisions
  • Which procedures, if any, will be undertaken along with the facelift
  • The approximate recovery period
