Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)
The areas around your eyes are one of the first indicators of aging. As we age, our eyelids begin to droop, making you appear tired and older than you true age. At Dr. G Plastic Surgery, Dr. Gonzalez offers eyelid surgery or (blepharoplasty) that treats drooping or fullness of the upper or lower eyelids.
Cosmetic eyelid surgery can:
- Tighten the skin and muscle around the eyes
- Remove excess skin and fat under eye
- Reduce fine lines and wrinkles
Procedures
Dr. Gonzalez offers three blepharoplasty procedures: upper and lower blepharoplasty and the transconjunctival blepharoplasty. All three procedures are performed on an outpatient basis.
Upper Eyelid Blepharoplasty
Dr. Gonzalez makes small incisions that are hidden in the natural folds of the skin above the eye, removes excess skin, fat and muscle are removed, restoring a younger, more toned look to the areas around the eyes. The improvement in appearance is often dramatic, shaving years off of your appearance, making you look more rested and refreshed. Incisions are closed with tiny sutures which will dissolve on their own. If non dissolvable sutures are used, they will be removed in 3-5 days. Most patients return to work about five to seven days after surgery.
Lower Eyelid Blepharoplasty
To treat puffy and saggy lower eyelids, Dr. Gonzalez performs lower blepharoplasty. Performed either alone or with upper eyelid surgery, lower eyelid surgery removes and redistributes fat for a smoother, tighter appearance. First an incision is made along the lower lash line – allowing for discrete scars which are virtually unnoticeable. Then fat and tissue is redistributed, skin tightened and the excess removed. Incisions are closed with tiny sutures which will dissolve on their own. If non dissolvable sutures are used, they will be removed in 3-5 days. Most patients return to work about five to seven days after surgery.
Transconjunctival
Blepharoplasty
If you do not have excess skin and are just looking to remove puffiness below the eyes, Dr. Gonzalez can perform transconjunctival blepharoplasty, which hides the incision underneath the lower eyelid. Incisions are closed with tiny sutures which will dissolve on their own. If non dissolvable sutures are used, they will be removed in 3-5 days. Most patients return to work about five to seven days after surgery.
