Pec Implants

male breast augmentation plastic surgery cosmetic surgeonPectoral muscle augmentation involves the surgical placement of pectoral implants (popularly called “pec” implants) in the chest area. A skilled surgeon can increase the depth of the pectoral muscle to make it appear more defined and chiseled with the help of pec implants plastic surgery. Pectoral augmentation can add the desired contour to the chest with the insertion of silicone gel implants.

Envy Aesthetic Center, led by board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Marco Gonzalez, provides pectoral augmentation surgery to patients in El Paso, TX, and surrounding locations.

Purpose of Pec Implants Surgery

Different candidates may choose pectoral implants cosmetic surgery according to their unique goals. The procedure may be recommended as a:

  • Cosmetic surgery to create desirable chest contours
  • Reconstructive surgery following an illness or injury
  • Female to Male (FTM) gender confirmation surgery

Pectoral Augmentation Surgery Procedure

Pec implants plastic surgery focuses on the enhancement of your upper chest, right above your breastbone where the pectoral muscle is located. The pectoralis major is a large, fan-shaped muscle which overlaps the tissue over a part of your rib cage and your heart, while extending back to your armpit.

Pre-operative Preparation

As you enter the surgery room, at first your chest area will be shaved. A local anesthetic injection will be placed at the treatment site, which will numb the area for some time. The procedure will usually involve general anesthesia, so that you will be completely asleep throughout the procedure.

Surgery Process

Following anesthesia, your cosmetic surgeon will create an incision in a pre-determined location where your pectoralis major muscle joins your pectoralis minor muscle – right at your armpit crease. Through the incision, your surgeon will insert a solid silicone gel implant below your skin tissue and between the two pectoralis muscles.

Once the implant is securely adjusted into its desired position, your surgeon will close the incision with sutures. They will wrap the treated area in bandages and then you will be brought out of anesthesia. The entire procedure can take one to two hours inside the operating room. You will then be moved to a recovery area for monitoring for a few hours. Most patients can return home the same day after the surgery.

Post-Op Recovery

For the first few days after the pec implants plastic surgery, you may experience mild bruising, swelling, inflammation and drainage from the incision sites. The temporary drain tubes will help to clear the fluid. You may be able to return to your normal routine in about a week or 10 days after the surgery. Your surgeon may require you to wear a compression garment for at least four to six weeks to promote faster healing.

Alternative Procedure

Fat grafting to the pectoralis muscle and chest can be performed as an alternative to pec implants surgery in some cases. In this case, the surgeon will first perform liposuction in a donor site, and then inject the purified fat under and to the sides of the pectoralis muscle to create chest definition. Cosmetic surgeon Dr. Marco Gonzalez receives patients from El Paso, TX, and nearby areas for pectoral augmentation surgery.
