Facelift Surgery
The face is the focal point of every person. It’s how we communicate with each other—with our eyes, brows, mouth, nose. Every emotion is shown, and it can express more than words. As time goes on, skin begins to sag, wrinkles begin to form, and our age becomes apparent.
While it is important to have a daily skincare routine, creams and serums can only do so much to help this natural change. To really tighten facial muscle tissues and remove excess skin, facelift surgery is the best way to target those issues. For a procedure as delicate as this, you need someone as experienced as Dr. Marco A. Gonzalez to deliver the results you desire.
What Is a
Facelift?
A traditional facelift, also known as rhytidectomy, is a cosmetic procedure that combats sagging skin, deep wrinkles and fold lines, jowls, and loose skin of the neck by tightening underlying muscles and removing excess skin. Facial aging can cause changes like skin thinning and facial fat loss, making you look older than you feel.
A facelift can refresh your appearance, making you look more youthful and energized. It can also be combined with other facial contouring procedures, such as brow lifts, eyelid surgery, and neck lift with liposuction, to remove excess fat and further enhance the effect.
It’s important to trust an experienced surgeon who will avoid the “pulled back” look that some facelift patients experience. Dr. Gonzalez customizes each patient’s procedure to their needs, aesthetic goals, and anatomy to ensure you’re satisfied with your final results.
Am I a Candidate for Facelift Surgery?
Ideal candidates for facelift surgery are individuals who:
- Have sagging skin on the face and neck (known as jowls)
- Have noticeable wrinkles and fold lines
- Are in good health and nonsmokers
- Have realistic expectations of their results
The best way to determine if you’re a good candidate for facelift surgery is through consultation. Dr. Gonzalez will learn more about your anatomy and your goals to create a personalized treatment plan for you.

How Is the Facelift Procedure Performed?
The facelift procedure begins with the administration of general anesthesia by an anesthesiologist, who will also monitor you throughout your procedure.
Small incisions are made around the ears and in the hairline to allow for minimal scarring. The skin and deep tissues are lifted and tightened for both the face and neck. Excess skin is removed, and sutures are applied to the incisions, which are then dressed with bandages.
This is an outpatient procedure, meaning you will be able to leave the facility the same day with the aid of a family member or friend.
How Can I Prepare for Facelift Surgery?
With such an impactful procedure, you want to be as prepared as possible.
Before your procedure, Dr. Gonzalez may request that you:
- Get medical testing done
- Take medication or adjust your current medication
- Apply products to face
- Stop smoking before and after the procedure
- Avoid certain drugs and herbal supplements
Due to being given general anesthesia, you will also need to prepare for someone to take you home after your procedure. You will also need someone to help you for the first 24 hours following the surgery.
What Is Recovery From Facelift Surgery Like?
For a facelift, expect to take at least two weeks off from work to focus on recovery.
Week 1
Bandages will be applied to your incisions immediately after your surgery to help minimize swelling and bruising. Pain medication will be provided to help manage discomfort. It’s important to get plenty of rest for the first few days and avoid strenuous activity to help your body heal. By the end of the first week, you should begin to feel less discomfort. Dr. Gonzales will provide you with detailed instructions regarding your recovery.
Week 2
During the second week, you may still experience bruising and swelling, but you should expect improvement from the first week. Tightness, tenderness, and numbness may be felt, but most patients feel much better by the end of week two. You may be given clearance to return to work and light activities.
Weeks 3 to 4
Residual swelling may follow you into weeks three and four, but most patients can begin to see their improved facial contour around this time. Scarring will become less noticeable, and regular activities and exercise can be resumed.
Week 5 and Beyond
While you may look fully healed on the outside, you’re still healing internally. Slight swelling, tightness, and noticeable facial skin texture may persist for up to a year.
Following your post-operative instructions and attending all of your follow-up appointments is important to ensuring a smooth recovery and long-lasting results.
What Results Can I Expect After Facelift Surgery?
As you heal, you will begin to see the contours of your face improve.
Once fully healed, you can expect to feel more confident in yourself and have a refreshed, more youthful face.
How Much Does a Full Facelift Cost?
Facelift surgery is a very customized procedure, and your facelift cost can vary from patient to patient.
Dr. Gonzalez’s facelift procedure starts at $10,000, depending on the facelift technique. However, this only reflects the surgeon’s fee and does not include anesthesia and facility costs. Additional costs may be added depending on your personalized treatment plan, including medications, medical tests, and transportation.
Dr. Gonzalez also offers a comprehensive facelift package, including a facelift, neck lift, upper blepharoplasty, and lower blepharoplasty. This package starts at $21,000 and covers the surgeon’s fees. Additional costs can be discussed at your consultation.
The best way to know your final facelift price is through consultation with Dr. Gonzalez. He will go over all potential costs and financing options for his clients.
